Alaska Summer Camp Payments Are Due & Merit Badges Offered

Posted on Apr 21 2014 - 9:50pm

Hi everyone,

The Alaska Summer Camp Adventure is getting closer. More exciting adventures are being planned each day!

One of the activities on this trip of a lifetime is a visit to an Iditarod Dog Kennel. Both trips will have an opportunity to see the dogs, with Tour A visiting the Iditarod Dog Race Headquarters in Wasilla. if you're going on the extended summer camp, you will also be visiting the Seavey Family Kennels in Seward. And FYI, Dallas Seavey just was the grandest of all races, the 2014 Iditarod!

THE GREAT 2014 ALASKA SUMMER CAMP & ADVENTURE !!!

Posted on Apr 21 2014 - 9:35pm

Hi Scouts:

It's here !!!!! …the amazing Summer Camp Adventure in Alaska.

There are two trips possible to ALASKA.  Tour A and Tour B

The primary difference in the Tours is the cost, length of the trip and what sightseeing and other activities are included.
Please see the attached flyer for more information on this incredible trip.

There are still a few spots available but you need to act now in order to get your spot and select your merit badges!

SOME FUN FACTS:
Alaska is situated in the northwest extremity of the North American continent. Bordering the state is Canada
to the east, the Arctic Ocean to the north, and the Pacific Ocean to the west and south, with Russia (specifically, Siberia) further west across
the Bering Strait. Alaska is the largest state in the United States by area, the 4th least populous and the least densely populated of the 50 United States.
Approximately half of Alaska's 731,449 residents live within the Anchorage metropolitan area. Alaska's economy is dominated
by the oil, natural gas, and fishing industries, resources which it has in abundance. Tourism is also a significant part of the economy. Although it had been
occupied for thousands of years by indigenous peoples, from the 18th century onward, European powers considered the territory of Alaska ripe for exploitation.
The United States purchased Alaska from Russia on March 30, 1867, for $7.2 million ($120 million adjusted for inflation) at
approximately two cents per acre ($4.74/km²). The area went through several administrative changes before
becoming organized as a territory on May 11, 1912. It was admitted as the 49th state of the U.S. on January 3, 1959.

Steam Generation Plant Field Trip April 26, 2014

Posted on Apr 21 2014 - 9:16pm

Scouts!!

We have a great opportunity to visit LADWP, Valley Generating Station, Saturday April 26th.
Here’s the address:
11801 Sheldon Street
Sun Valley, Ca. 91352
Sign-ups this Tuesday at the meeting.

All scouts attending must have a photo ID with them.
Adult leaders attending must have DL type ID on them.
Only those on the sign up list will be allowed to participate.
It is not an option for those parents that want to “drop off” their scout at the gate.
Spot is limited to 30 visitors only. First come, first serve.
I will meet the scouts and adults at the gate between 9:00 and 9:15 am.
The tour should take about 2 hours.
Depending on status of the units operating or not, we will be able to see things like gas driven Combustion Turbines, Generators, Transformers, and auxiliary equipment support for electrical generation. We may be able to visit the simulator room, this is still in the works.
My boss has also agreed to be there; he knows the plant really well and will be able to answer many more questions than I would.

Feel free to call or email me for any questions,
